About the Artists
2020 was the birth of Jane Inc., a solo project forged by Carlyn Bezic after years of building her bona fides in the Toronto music scene with groups like U.S. Girls, Darlene Shrugg and acclaimed dance-pop duo Ice Cream. Pitchfork called Jane Inc.'s first album, 2021's Number One,"dazzling... [Bezic] proves herself a musical Swiss Army knife, capable of anything and reveling in her multiplicity." On her sophomore album, Faster Than I Can Take (released on April 22 via Telephone Explosion Records), she uses all the tools at her disposal - a Prince-like ability to shred harmonic guitar riffs over deep, danceable grooves, an eagerness to experiment with form, and lyricism that seamlessly links the personal and the political - to focus the multifaceted energy of Number One into something completely singular. A disco-inflected, danceable meditation on the permeable boundaries between our interior and exterior worlds, with a live show that pushes those themes through clever performativity, Faster Than I Can Take is a must-listen, in headphones and in person.
Akeem Oh (Ouellet) is an American-Canadian singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Ottawa ON.
Initially contributing to the growing French Canadian music scene, he won the APCM prize at the Ontario Pop Music Showcase (now rebranded as Rond Point). He was also a finalist on the hit musical TV Show JAM on TFO in 2012.
His two singles “Winter Crush” and “School Girl” were both released to critical acclaim and have received national airplay on CBC. He’s currently completing his debut EP, which is scheduled for Late 2022.
Laura Bruno, aka FIAMMA, is a bedroom pop artist based in Ottawa, Ontario. Her sound is eclectic, grabbing from many of her varying influences. Each of her songs evokes a unique spatial atmosphere. She layers lush vocals over bright, synthy sounds, and messy guitar riffs. Since recently teaching herself guitar and bass, her sound has evolved to be more instrumental.
Laura is currently studying classical voice performance at Carleton University. In addition to her music, she also experiments with sound art using field recordings, as well as with data-generated sound.
