Rae Spoon is a musician, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and author. They have released twelve solo albums (Coax Records) spanning folk, country, indie rock, and electronic genres and published three books (Arsenal Pulp Press). Rae has been nominated for two Polaris Prizes, a Lambda Literary Award, and a Western Canadian Music Award. They have toured internationally (Canada, Europe, the USA, Australia, China). Rae is a non-binary, trans artist who lives with multiple disabilities. Their most recent album, Not Dead Yet (2023), was written about their lived experience of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and complications.
Rae Spoon is an uninvited guest and settler with European ancestry on stolen land. They were born and grew up on Treaty 7 territory in Mohkínsstsisi/Calgary (the traditional and ancestral territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy: Kainai, Piikani and Siksika as well as the Tsuu T'ina Nation and Stoney Nakoda First Nation). Rae currently lives between Tkoronto/Toronto (the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples) and Tiohtià:ke/Montréal (the unceded Indigenous lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka/Mohawk Nation).

GAMIQ nominated artist Corey Gulkin revels in the peculiar and makes it feel like home. Emerging from the world of folk music, Gulkin drew attention early in their career as the 2013 laureate of the John Lennon Songwriting Grand Prize. In recent years, Gulkin has alchemized their musical pedigree through experimentation. With Gulkin’s tenacity and vulnerability at the forefront, their new album Half Moon (2023, Anything Bagel) leaps into the world of art-rock, channeling queer heartbreak, love, and rage. Confrontational, restless, and spirited, Gulkin rides the terror and thrill of refusing to back down, carried by the Thom Yorkian vibrato of their voice. From furious guitar solos to tender improvisation and cathartic moments, Gulkin’s live set is tenacious and adventurous. Over the years, they have been featured on Bandcamp Daily, CBC, Exclaim!, and NPR and have performed alongside Leith Ross, Marissa Nadler, Blitzen Trapper, and The Weather Station.

mars aspen (they/them) is a twenty two year old indigenous and queer singer/songwriter. their current sound and inspirations pull from indie rock, alt pop, and folk music in a way that blurs the genres together. their latest single “overgrown” was released in the summer and is now available on all streaming services.
COVID SAFETY POLICY
This event is intended to be safer for COVID-conscious artists and audience members. As such please note that face masks are required, and will be provided for free at the door.
We ask that audience member please wear your mask and wash and sanitize your hands often.
The event will take place outdoors (the stage and audience area is covered, so in case of light rain the event will go ahead as planned). The bar service area and bathrooms are located indoors. Doors will be kept open to ensure good airflow to indoor spaces and HEPA filtration units will be placed in the indoor space.
Artists, crew members, and audience members are asked to take a COVID rapid test before coming to the event site. It is recommended that everyone test 48 hours and 24 hours before the event.
We ask that audience members monitor for symptoms of cold and/or flu before the event or if you have been exposed to someone with cold/flu symptoms. If you are sick, please do not come - refunds will be offered for cancellation related to illness.
ACCESSIBILITY
The SAW Courtyard is on street level, with access to lower levels by ramp. The doors to the indoor space are a combination of automatic and non-, and the non-automatic doors will be left open during the event.
Seating - chairs will be provided. The chairs do not have arm rests. There are also concrete benches around the courtyard.
Service area - the bar inside Club SAW is at a height not accessible for everyone, however there is a lowered part at the bar entrance area where bartenders will serve anyone who cannot access the rest of the bar.
Water refill station is available at the bar. Bartenders will be available for assistance as well.
Debaser offers free tickets for personal support workers or care attendants. Please email hello@debaser.ca in advance of the event to arrange a ticket for an attendant, or ask the volunteer working box office.
Disabled attendees are able to “jump the line” or bypass a lineup at the event entrance/box office as needed. Please notify the security and volunteers that you are requesting to jump the line for accessibility purposes.
