About the Artists
When Caylie Runciman started calling herself Boyhood, it was a nod to childhood nostalgia. Now, the alias – and the beguiling bedroom anthems – are one and the same. Tough-kid guitar grit and deadpan verses give way to whimsical synthlines and delicate harmonies. But like an off-kilter merry- go-round, or a candy shop in a seedy part of town, there's a shady layer to Runciman's perfect pop. Her black magic is raw – equal parts ecstasy and heartbreak. And in among the bright colours, there's the joy and the pain in knowing what it means to grow up.
Kicksie is Canadian music project focusing on the type of genre-blending that allows for a little something for everyone.
"All My Friends, Giuliana Mormile's new album as Kicksie, is filled with emo-tinged grandeur. From the liquid guitar riffs of "Reaching Out (Peace)" to the shout-along choruses of "BANANA POP!" to atmospheric experiments like "Blind to It" and "All I'm Good For," All My Friends is the sound of a fully formed songwriter who's ready to take on the world.”
Jazz Dads are a noisy post punk band founded in Toronto by music and visual people Jenn Kitagawa (Eyeballs, New Positions) and Leslie Predy (Doom Tickler, Induced Labour). A fleshy exercise that spews forth sludgy bass lines, untethered drumming and fuzzy vocals resulting in distorted spazz rock. Like a fine rotisserie chicken covered in Swiss Chalet sauce, JD will have you happily reeling and saturated.
Inspired by Modern Baseball, Pinegrove, and the graphic tee section at Walmart: Backseat Dragon has been shredding emo acoustic tunes since fall 2020. Writing nostalgic tunes in their basement, recording conversations with friends, and trying their absolute hardest not to overshare was how most time was spent working on their EP, "Splash Pad". The solo project has since evolved into a rad three piece band who are not only ready to rock, but also ready to roll.
