Established in 2013, Debaser is an arts organization and event presenter/producer based on unceded Algonquin territory (in so-called Ottawa) that exists to exhibit and support creative music-makers, provide engaging and exciting programming, and amplify marginalized art and artists. Debaser has presented more than 150 shows and over 400 groundbreaking artists since 2013. We are a reputable source for forward-thinking and thoughtfully curated programming. From 2013-2019, Debaser operated as an ad-hoc volunteer-run organization, and incorporated as a non-profit organization in early 2020.
Debaser is seeking new board members who share our passion for boundary-pushing creative music and art, and our commitment to fostering safer and more inclusive cultural spaces. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about the organization and its mandate, who show attention to detail, a willingness to ask questions and engage in open discussion, and who have sufficient time to fulfill the requirements of the position (approx. 3-4 hours per month), including attending board meetings (approx. 8-10 annually). Previous board or nonprofit experience is not required.
Please note that this is a volunteer position. Any reasonable expenses incurred while acting in your role as board member will be covered by Debaser.

Debaser encourages applicants from groups that are historically and currently identified as targets of oppression, including Black, Indigenous, people of colour, 2SLGBTQIA, disabled folks and women. We recognize that in Canada, legacies of oppression are perpetuated through, among other things, hiring and recruitment practices. We strive to participate in restorative justice by implementing socially just recruitment practices that counter these pressures. Applicants are welcome to voluntarily self-identify as a member of one of these groups.
