A few months ago, we provided some transparency about how our pay-what-you-can ticketing revenues broke down. We revealed that only small percentage of ticket buyers pay more than the base suggested price for their tickets, while approximately 1/3 of tickets to Pique are subsidized.
Today, we offer a status update, share some testimony about what the ticket subsidies mean for recipients, and urge those who can to pay-it-forward by purchasing by paying more for their ticket to Pique winter edition.
At the last edition of Pique:
2% of ticket purchasers paid high-tier ticket pricing ($65+)
8% of ticket purchasers paid mid-tier ($45)
50% of ticket purchasers paid the base suggested rate ($35)
40% received subsidized tickets
Compared to previous edition of Pique (on average), when:
1% of ticket purchasers paid high-tier ticket pricing
5% of ticket purchasers paid mid-tier pricing
60% of ticket purchasers paid the base suggested rate
35% received subsidized tickets
We want to thank the 4% of ticket purchasers who increased their contribution to Pique!
While the % of people who paid more increased, so did the % of people who received subsidies. 6% more accessed ticket subsidies compared to previous editions.
Why is Pique’s Pay-What-You-Can ticket policy important?
Feedback from recipients indicates that ticket subsidies make Pique more accessible and inclusive for them.
Here is what a few of them said:
“Making world-class programming financially accessible is an amazing and revolutionary idea.”
“Having access to social events and art during hard times is so important! ”
“There is no judgement with regards to different people and their financial situations.”
“It allows people like me who are living paycheque to paycheque to still enjoy art despite not being able to afford it.”
“It makes Pique more accessible to everyone. I probably wouldn't have been able to go had this program not been in place.”
“Inclusion in unique events such as this should not be only reserved for those that can afford it.”
Paying-what-you-can and Paying it forward
When you purchase a high-tier ticket ($65+), you subsidize a ticket for those who cannot afford a ticket in this range.
Increased costs of living has impacted just about everyone, but some are feeling the impacts harder than others. If it is within your means to pay more for Pique, you help maintain equity and accessibility for everyone.
Pique remains pay-what-you-can — it’s a core principle of what we do. Paying above the minimum price when you can is part of contributing to its sustainability.
So thank you for paying-what-you-can and paying it forward!
Thank you for subsidizing a ticket to Pique!
