Drone Day is coming. Are you ready?
Next Saturday May 25, 8 hours of continuous drone will bathe listeners inside the vaulted hall of the Carleton Dominion Chalmers Centre (CDCC).
Drones made by voice, CRT televisions, cello, organic matter, digital processing, saxophone, synthesizer, the CDCC’s 54-year-old Casavant pipe organ - plus whatever YOU choose to bring - will cross-fade throughout the day’s decentralized, heterogenous, unified sound program.
Sound-makers are invited to participate in two activities:
12:00 pm Gathering in the garden with Anne Bourne
Artist/composer and mentor Anne Bourne will prepare the chorus (all voices welcome) and group drone players, with a series of Oliveros’ seed improvisation techniques including the Tuning Meditation, to improvise a sound field together. Participants will be invited back to contribute to Anne’s piece DIVERS at 5:44 pm.
6:00 pm Group Drone
Sound-makers of all kinds welcome! Together we will follow Pauline Oliveros’ score “Horse Sings from Cloud” a drone text score that provokes thoughtful choice and listening, allowing space within collective creativity, which may deepen the consciousness of self organizing.
The annual global celebration of drone, community and experimental sounds returns to Anishinaabe-Algonquin territory on May 25, and Debaser is proud to present a happening in partnership with Carleton University Art Gallery as part of their Gatherings series.
Entry and workshop participation is PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN and the event is ALL-AGES
